A private letter or a painful bill. A treasured novel or a trashy mag. Where does one keep all of these things? They never stop coming! What furniture/space/room do you use to handle your ‘home secretary’ chores?

I know that for those living in Suburban Melbourne ‘space’ is an issue. Therefore when it comes to addressing the tedious tasks of answering mail or reading bills, we tend to just store it all up in a hidden location (allowing it to be conveniently lost forever). However one cannot simply ‘ignore’ the endless soccer practice schedules, school camp forms, parking fines, event invitations and medical reminders. They are all important! If unattended to the piles of paperwork will eventually become too much and it will come back to bite you. Usually this happens in the form of more paperwork; it has a lot of red on it and says something like ‘account overdue’. These are the worst sort.

However lack of ‘space’ will not only put off these less favoured tasks but it will also deter us from entertaining ourselves with those more enjoyable ‘creative’ tasks. Whether it be putting together a scrap book, flicking through furniture magazines, downloading photo’s to your laptop, reading the paper on your Ipad, writing down all your deliberations, keeping up to date with your diary, looking at T&C’s blog or just reading and writing til the hearts content we should not be deprived.

Why should the ‘man’ of the house be the only one to have his own private study? Our work, thoughts and various creative undertakings are of arguably greater importance (we may be a little bit bias). We should not be deprived the small luxury of a desk. Trying to work on the small corner of the phone table or positioning yourself at the end of the bench between empty cereal bowls, milk, coffee and groceries makes the job much less fun. Mimco participated in the Windows By Design project as part of L’Oreal Melbourne Fashion Festival 2013. A visual treasure hunt for all to enjoy, the project transforms the city into a landscape of art-inspired installations. Mimco has collaborated with florist and sculptor Wona Bae and stylist Bec Cole to transform the window of the GPO boutique into a still life sculpture. Using Town and Country Style’s Vienne large Chandelier, the artists were inspired by the elements of the S1.13 Paradise Battalion collection, the installation allows visitors to discover a space of wonderment that explores romanticism, beauty, nature in all its wonders and more.
